Lettice Rowbotham Cabaret Musical

Britain’s Got Talent finalist Lettice Rowbotham is making sparks fly as she takes the electric violin to the next level. But her appearances on the nation’s most popular talent show are only the tip of the iceberg for the young virtuoso.

Not only does she play anything and everything from scintillating gypsy jazz to the classical repertoire and dancefloor-raising dubstep to uninhibited Irish jigs and reels, but she also packs a mighty singing voice and bags of personality.

“Since I rebelled against my teachers at the age of 17 I have basically made my own way of playing violin, I spend my entire time improvising, doing things that aren’t supposed to work, trying techniques that nobody else has, that’s where the joy is for me,” explains Lettice.

Lettice was classically trained from the age of 4 at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Purcell School of Music, Royal College of Music and Charterhouse and was a music scholar through school and gained Grade 8 distinction on the violin with 140 Marks at just 13 years old!

Lettice first declared her love for the violin at the age of three when she saw some buskers in the street near her home. Months of nagging her parents resulted in them buying her a plastic violin, which she instantly rejected, then eventually a real instrument. Within hours she was picking out melodies. A glittering career in classical music beckoned as she moved onto the Purcell School for Young Musicians, but the classical world had reckoned without Lettice’s highly developed aptitude for rebellion.

“Really, since the age of 17, I’ve hardly read music at all, I’ve just done my own thing. I love improvising, it’s so expressive and I can be really free when I’m playing like that, in touch with my emotions.

Lettice has played for Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace, appeared with Olly Murs on a BBC Radio 1 Live
Lounge and has performed at private and public functions all over the World from palaces in Venice, museums in
Scotland, the sandy beaches of Barbados and the muddy fields of Glastonbury!!
