Derrick Harris is widely recognised as one of the finest guitarists in the UK. Based in the North of England, as well as leading his own jazz groups which range from a duo to a septet, he frequently guests as a soloist in concerts nationally.
His guitar playing has been featured frequently on radio and television and his varied career as a freelance guitarist has seen him working in the West End and in touring productions of shows such as Chicago, Bat Boy the Musical, Fame, Dirty Dancing, Spamalot, Jerry Springer the Opera, Our House, Bad Girls, Follies, Smokey Joe's Cafe and also as accompanist to artists as diverse as Jack Jones, Mel B, Lee Gibson, Claire Martin, Russ Abbott, Gene Pitney, Dave Willetts, Marti Caine, and opera star Lesley Garrett.
He works regularly with the Halle Orchestra with conductors Stephen Bell, Richard Balcombe and Nick Davies, and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and with composers Carl Davis, Anthony Inglis and David Fanshawe. He can also be heard on the cast albums of Honk, Dave Willetts in Concert and Bat Boy the Musical. Derrick has also recorded a number of CDs both as leader of his own groups and as a featured member of other bands.
