Blue Harlem hit the bandstand running. Formed by AI Nicholls in early '96 (he served his time with Big Town Playboys, King Pleasure and Ray Gelato's Giants), the members kept meeting in other groups so it seemed natural to get together - for good.
They love the music of the jump and swing jazz bands of the forties and fifties. Bill 'Count' Basie and Jimmy Lunceford are their particular heroes, so you can be sure that the band will get you jumping, jiving and bopping. Festivals played by Blue Harlem in include Molde (Norway) International Jazz Festival, Soho (London) Jazz Festival, West Wales International Jazz Festival in Aberystwyth, the Bath Fringe Festival and Ghentbrugge (Belgium) International Jazz Festival. The Band are now regulars at the world-famous 100 Club
as well as playing many other London venues including the Barbican Centre, the South Bank Centre and Jitterbugs. Blue Harlem have become a favourite at many functions and have played for huge number of private and corporate events.
Michael Parkinson - BBC Radio Two: "The group I'm currently raving about! Happy music, music that makes you want to dance! Highly recommended"
